About Coastal Connections

A supportive, real-world approach to helping neurodivergent young adults build confidence, connection, and independence.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help neurodivergent young adults build confidence, friendships, and independence through structured social learning, life-skills development, and meaningful community engagement.

We are committed to creating an environment where individuals feel supported, respected, and empowered to grow—both socially and personally.

What We Do

Coastal Connections Life Skills & Social Development LLC is a structured program designed to support neurodivergent young adults in building confidence, developing meaningful relationships, and gaining real-world independence.

Our approach focuses on learning by doing. Through guided discussions, social interaction practice, role-playing, and community-based experiences, participants develop practical skills that translate into everyday life.

Rather than a traditional classroom setting, Coastal Connections provides a supportive, real-world environment where individuals can practice communication, build friendships, and grow at their own pace.

We believe every young adult deserves the opportunity to feel capable, connected, and confident in their community.

Meet Nina Milan

Nina Milan is a San Diego-based mother, advocate, and dedicated supporter of neurodivergent young adults. Her work is deeply rooted in personal experience, shaped by her journey raising a son who was born blind and later diagnosed with autism.

After more than 40 eye surgeries, her son gained limited vision and is now able to see approximately three to five feet. Navigating the complexities of visual impairment, autism, education systems, and daily life gave Nina a firsthand understanding of the patience, creativity, and support young people need to truly thrive.

Determined to help her children succeed, Nina homeschooled them in their early years before transitioning them into public school. When adequate classroom support was not initially available, she volunteered daily—supporting not only her son, but other students as well. Her dedication and impact led to opportunities to work within the school district, where she supported students at both the middle school and high school levels.

Through these experiences, Nina worked closely with educators, families, and students, developing a strong foundation in:

  • Social skills development

  • Life skills and independence coaching

  • Autism and neurodivergent support

  • Community integration

  • Confidence building

  • Creating safe, structured environments

These personal and professional experiences inspired the creation of Coastal Connections LLC—a program designed to help young adults build friendships, confidence, and independence through structured social learning and meaningful community experiences.

Nina believes every young adult deserves the opportunity to feel included, build relationships, and discover their strengths. Her approach centers on creating welcoming environments where participants feel safe, respected, and supported as they grow at their own pace.

Outside of her work, Nina enjoys spending time with her family, being near the ocean, exploring the coastal communities of North County San Diego, cooking, and hosting gatherings. She is passionate about bringing people together and creating spaces where meaningful connections can grow.

Through Coastal Connections, Nina’s goal is to make a lasting impact—helping young adults build life skills, develop friendships, and experience a true sense of belonging in their community.

Our Philosophy

At Coastal Connections, we believe growth happens in environments where individuals feel safe, supported, and encouraged.

Our approach is built on a few key principles:

Support First

Participants are never expected to be perfect. We meet individuals where they are and provide guidance that builds confidence step by step.

Real-World Learning

Skills are most effective when practiced in real-life settings. We prioritize community-based experiences that feel natural and meaningful.

Structure with Flexibility

Our programs provide clear structure while allowing participants to learn at their own pace and comfort level.

Connection Matters

Building friendships and feeling a sense of belonging is just as important as developing life skills.

Empowerment Through Practice

We focus on helping participants not only learn skills—but use them confidently in everyday situations.

Why Coastal Connections Was Created

Four young friends sitting around a wooden table outdoors at sunset, smiling and chatting, with drinks and a potted plant on the table.

Coastal Connections was created with a deep understanding of the challenges that many neurodivergent young adults and their families face when transitioning into adulthood.

Many individuals have the ability and desire to be more independent, build relationships, and participate in their communities—but often lack access to programs that provide the right balance of structure, support, and real-world practice.

Too often, young adults are placed in environments that are either too rigid or not supportive enough. Coastal Connections was designed to bridge that gap.

This program exists to provide:

  • A safe space to practice social skills

  • Real-world experiences that build independence

  • Supportive coaching that encourages growth

  • Opportunities to form meaningful connections

At its core, Coastal Connections is about helping individuals not just learn skills—but apply them in life.
